Premature ejaculation occurs when a man reaches orgasm and ejaculates before he or his partner want. Although it is a common problem that affects 30% to 40% of men, it is curable.

Occasional episodes are frequent and not a reason for alarm, but if you notice that about half of your sex attempts lead to premature ejaculation, you should see a doctor.

Types of premature ejaculation

There are two types:

  • Primary if you have been suffering since puberty
  • Secondary “acquired” when the problem appears recently.

The only symptom is the condition itself.

There is no set time range for diagnosing premature ejaculation. However, the definition states that it happens sooner, such as before or shortly after penetration. It can also be classified into three stages according to the time of ejaculation (mild, moderate, and severe).

Causes

Premature ejaculation can occur suddenly due to many factors, including psychological and physical. Common physical causes include:

Prostate problems such as prostatitis

  • Thyroid problems, whether it is hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism
  • Use of recreational drugs, including excessive alcohol consumption

While common psychological causes include:

  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Having some relationship problems
  • Concern about sexual performance, particularly at the start of a new relationship or if the male has a history of sexual issues.

Also, there are uncommon reasons that may cause premature ejaculation since puberty, such as:

  • Going through a painful sexual experience since childhood
  • Strict upbringing and beliefs about sex

Treatment

Several ways that can help you such as:

  • Use a thicker condom to help reduce the sensation and arousal a bit
  • Take a deep breath
  • Take a break during sex and think of something boring

Treatment may include the use of certain medications such as

  • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which are mainly used in the treatment of depression. But Dapoxetine is used more often because it is specifically designed to treat premature ejaculation, and it is usually recommended to take it 1 or 3 hours before sex, but not more than once a day.
  • Numbing creams and sprays such as lidocaine or prilocaine cream can help.

Using a numbing cream with a condom can be especially effective
