Summer is here, which means it’s time to have some fun and spend more time outside. However, this means that you will be exposed to more factors, such as sunshine and insects, which can cause skin problems. All of this might spoil your summer fun! Thankfully, your summer vacation has not yet been ruined; there are some simple precautions you may do to enjoy your summer vacation without summer skin problems.

The most common summer skin problems

Acne

Summer causes more acne outbreaks for most of us, especially teens, due to increased sweat production and combining with bacteria and oils on your skin, causing some pores to become clogged.  If you have acne-prone skin, this improves the probability of pimples. But the following strategies will assist you in preventing acne:

  • Blot the sweat with a clean towel.
  • Wash sweaty clothes, towels and headbands before wearing them again.
  • Use non-comedogenic products on your face, neck, back and chest. Choose products that are “oil-free” or “won’t clog pores.”

Skin irritation

Hot and humid air can cause dry and irritated skin. And guess what? Spending time in the sun, the pool, and conditioning can exacerbate the problem! Try the following tips if your skin begins to feel dry and irritated:

  • Shower and shampoo immediately after leaving the pool, using fresh water and a mild detergent.
  • Apply sunscreen before going outdoors.
  • Use a gentle cleanser to wash your skin.
  • Shower with warm water rather than hot water.
  • Apply a fragrance-free moisturizer after showering within 5 minutes.
  • Always carry a moisturizer with you so that you can apply it after washing your hands and when your skin feels dry.
  • Turn up the air conditioning temperature if you feel the air is too dry.

Nail infection

Manicures and pedicures can make your nails look great, but they can also expose you to germs that can cause infection.

You can follow some tips to avoid infection such as:

  • Apply a cream to moisturize your nails, especially after removing nail polish, because most removers cause dryness.
  • To prevent infection, do not cut or forcefully push back cuticles.
  • Ask them in the nail salon about:
  • If the specialist washes her hands between clients
  • Cleanliness of used tools
  • Check if there are any unclean utensils lying around
  • The way they disinfect their tools
  • Avoid shaving your legs before getting a pedicure because if you cut yourself while shaving, a pedicure could put you at risk of infection.
  • Purchase your own tools to use at the salon if you get frequent manicures and pedicures.

You can also take care of your nails at the hands of a skilled podiatrist at Health and Style Medical Center.
